We create exhibits around the Richmond area in different event spaces, in order to highlight amazing local artists and their work.
The Art Seen Residency Program is an opportunity that we grant emerging artists to receive a variety of resources, experiences and exposure to expand their artistic reach.
David Marion is a South Carolina native and innate artist currently based in Richmond, VA, weaving vibrant narratives through his thematic paintings. Unveiling his artistic prowess from a young age, Marion's passion for creation persisted alongside his architectural pursuits, culminating in a Bachelor's degree from Hampton University. With oil as his chosen medium, he has honed his expertise in figurative art and portraiture for over a decade, showcasing his work in galleries across New York, Chicago, South Carolina, and Virginia, marking his ascent to national recognition.
Driven by a commitment to community service, David, alongside his wife Tiara, established the Liberated Flow Charity Art Gala. This initiative utilizes art as a catalyst for change, supporting non-profits through awareness and fundraising. Marion’s civic contributions have long been rooted in the Richmond landscape; he served as the featured "official poster" artist for the RVA 2nd Street Festival (2015-2018) and was a selected artist for RVA Community Makers in 2021, crafting a painting honoring a living community figure for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Most recently, David and Tiara were honored as 2025 VMFA Community Makers, recognizing the Liberated Arts Foundation’s excellent work and sustained impact within the RVA community.
Infusing his creations with personal experiences, David Marion's art transcends as a commentary on black life, family, and the struggles inherent in being black in America. Each piece serves as a positive testament, depicting themes that resonate universally. For Marion, art is a potent medium of communication, a platform to share his worldview, and a testament to inspire and awaken the latent gifts within others.

BLACK & BLUE is about discomfort and the courage to step into it. This work explores the moments that challenge us— the risks and experiences that may bruise us on the surface but bring us closer to who we truly are.
Being black and blue is not about the marks left behind, but about what is revealed through them. This exhibition reflects a process of self-discovery, resilience and becoming inviting viewers to sit with discomfort and consider what is gained when we choose growth over ease.
The exhibit is live throughout February at Chromophore Artspace in Richmond, VA so stop on by to check out this amazing exhibit!
