Echoes of Virginia’s Black Notes" dives headfirst into the bold legacy of Virginia’s Black musicians. Teaming up with DJ Mike Street, I’ve channeled the raw energy of jazz, blues, and soulful music from an era of Black Renaissance into a wild mix of colors and shapes. Inspired by legends like Pearl Bailey, Bill Robinson, Ruth Brown, and Ella Fitzgerald, this piece frames a man and woman caught in a moment of passion and music. These artists didn’t follow the rules—they shattered them. And that’s what I’ve tried to capture here: the fearless spirit that pushed the boundaries of music and culture. This project was my own journey of discovery, pushing my art to new limits. I hope this piece dares you to break the mold and make some history of your own. Because, let’s face it, no one ever changed the world by playing it safe.
