My artwork centers on the delicate equilibrium of Black and Brown women’s lived experiences—balancing autonomy, resilience, and grace amid systemic challenges. Within each piece, I explore the duality of strength and fragility, likening their essence to flowers: beautiful, intricate, and enduring, yet vulnerable to external forces. The decorative paper used in my work symbolizes layers of identity, culture, and history that both protect and conceal. These ornamental textures mirror the way society often sees women of color as decorative contributors rather than acknowledging the depth of their autonomy. Through each stroke and layer, my work challenges this narrative, celebrating the self-determination of Black and Brown women while honoring the delicate moments of their lived reality. My art is both a reclamation of identity and an ode to their ability to persist and thrive, finding balance amidst adversity.
